Visa nationals who would like to work in the UK can apply for a work visa, provided that they satisfy the necessary requirements.
There are 2 main types of working visas:
- Tier 5 -temporary jobs in some sectors
- Tier 2 – skilled jobs
- UK Ancestry visa
In regards to other immigration categories allowing employment in the UK, i.e. Tier 1 (General) and Tier 1 Post Study Work those were abolished in 2011 and 2012 accordingly. However, those who currently hold Tier 1 (General) visa are still able to extend their permission to stay.
Those are currently holding Tier 1 Post Study Work visa are able to switch to Tier 2 (General) without passing labour market test.
As Tier 1 Post Study work visa was abolished, those who have a Tier 4 visa and get a degree from the UK might be able to switch to Tier 2 route without going through labour market test.
